The Praying Mantis Style originated in the Shantung Province during the Ming Dynasty (1645). The founder of the style, Wong Long, created this aggressive school of martial arts by studying the arm movement of one of nature's fiercest insects, the praying mantis. After challenging and defeating the head abbot of the Shaolin Temple, he and this style became famous throughout Northern China. Wong Long later discovered the fast and deceptive footwork of the monkey and incorporated it into the style. |

Its constantly changing footwork and ascending and descending stances tend to lull its opponent into a state of momentary confusion and bewilderment, allowing the monkey an opportunity to unexpectedly leap into an attack with haunting accuracy. |
